The original goal of inventing the Gregorian calendar was to change the date of the pagan festival Easter. Before pope Gregory introduced his calendar, Europe followed the Julian calendar, which was invented by Julius Caesar in 46 BC. Julius Caesar had miscalculated the length of the solar year by eleven minutes. This eventually resulted in the date of the pagan festival Easter to move away from the spring equinox with each year.
During the reign of Constantine [306-337 AD], the Romans observed the calendar of Julius Caesar, the Julian calendar. It was Julius Caesar, in 46 BC, who separated the months and weeks from the moon and made a continuous eight day cycle. In the Bible, the word "month" refers to the moon 250 times. New moon literally means "new month". Julius Caesar separated the months and weeks from the moon making their lengths fixed.
The Julian calendar originally was an eight day calendar which had a seven day Saturday thru Friday weekly cycle followed by an eighth day called "Market Day". Saturday originally was the first day of the week, Sunday was the second day, Monday was the third, and so on. Saturday, which is kept as the Sabbath by many Jews, Messianics, and some Protestants, was never the biblical seventh day Sabbath. Saturday aka Saturn's day had always been the first day of the pagan week since Saturn was the high god. Even ancient Israel, when in rebellion against YHVH, worshiped the pagan god Saturn and worship him on his "sabbath" day (Saturday/Saturn's day) which was on the first day of the pagan week. Anyway, whichever pagan god/goddess is the high god, his/her "sabbath" is placed as the first day of the pagan week. Since Saturn was the high god, his day (Saturday) was first on the pagan calendar.
Notice on the Julian calendar below how the pagan god Saturn is first. His "sabbath" was the first day of the pagan week.

So the question is, why do so many of God's people keep Saturn's day as the biblical seventh day Sabbath?
